In a few weeks an estimated 150 people will be running and walking in the bitter cold of winter at at The Greene for a great cause, battling the number 1 killer of American women… heart disease.

Mike Duffey, spokesman for The Greene, says “Just working up the nerve to run in this weather deserves respect. Last year, we had 146 people in 20 degree weather, many of whom came and registered the day of the event despite the temperature.”

The “Go Red For Women” event this year features a 2 mile walk or run on the streets of The Greene. The event will be held Saturday, Feb 23rd at 9:00 am. Registration is required. At 10:00 am a “Kids Fun Run” will also begin following the 9:00 am kickoff of the main 2 mile run and walk.

The Greene says that after completing the race, participants and others are invited to visit the Health Fair at Urban Active Fitness inside The Greene. Mike Duffey says this is an event for the entire family. Awards will be presented at the Health Fair and “Greene Money” will be awarded to the top three participants for each age group and gender category.

All entrants are also eligible for door prizes courtesy of The Greene. Medals will be awarded in age groups and all proceeds benefit the American Heart Association.

The entry fee is $15 if paid before Feb 16, 2008 by registering early via The Greene’s events calendar at www.thegreene.com, and $20 after that date. Registration includes t-shirt, as quantities last, and refreshments.

Check-In and Registration: Friday, February 22, 2008 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the Urban Active Fitness lobby.

or Check-In on Race Day: Saturday, February 23, 2008 7:30 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. at the cottage at The Greene’s town square.

Race Start 9:00 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2008.

Theresa Torrealba from The Great Dane Bakery in Huntington, Calif., was named as the 2007 Pillsbury Grand Champion. Theresa was representing the California Retail Bakers Association in the competition. Also placing as Grand Champion winners were Patricia Mateyka from Kalupa’s Bakery in Tampa, Fla., representing the Deep South Affiliate who took second place and Karen Thomson from A Taste of Elegance in Beavercreek, Ohio, representing the Ohio Bakers Association who placed third.

“All of this year’s competitors are truly talented decorators,” noted Susan Nicolais, CAE, Executive Vice President of RBA. “The dedication to their work was evident by the quality of their designs and creations.”

The intense two-day competition was held during the 2007 American Retail Bakery Exposition, September 9 – 11, in Las Vegas and featured talented professional cake decorators from around the country. The contestants competed in six categories ; flowers & sprays with borders, wedding cake, rolled fondant, custom design cake, sculpted cake, and creative decorating free style.

The highest scoring individual is determined by a panel of professional baking judges. All judges have the Certified Decorator designation. The judges evaluate the contestant’s total product in each category and assign points using a criterion of well defined standards.
In addition to selecting the Pillsbury Grand Champion, winners in each individual category were announced. The first place winners in each category include:
