Two Pakistanis among four executed in Saudi Arabia for drug trafficking

Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi

Fox News' Shepard Smith teed off today on the stunning new Washington Post report this week revealing that "the children of slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi have received million-dollar houses in the kingdom and monthly five-figure payments as compensation for the killing of their father". The others, who live in the United States, plan to sell the Jeddah homes they were given, the insiders say. Neither did William Taylor, a Washington lawyer who has represented the family.

Salah is leading the financial discussions with Saudi authorities, according to the paper, and his desire to remain in Jeddah with his family has "contributed to the siblings' deference to the authorities and caution in their public statements over the past six months". Khashoggi's two sons and daughters either declined to comment or were unreachable, The Washington Post said.

The family of the deceased journalist could also grant clemency to the killers if convicted as the Saudi justice system allows it.

Moreover, this affair has become a bubbling domestic issue in the USA with scores of lawmakers on both sides of the partisan divide harshly criticising Trump's response to Khashoggi's murder in which he said, "Maybe [MBS] did, maybe he didn't" order Khashoggi's killing notwithstanding the CIA's findings.

Its public prosecutor has charged 11 people over his murder without naming them, and they are now on trial in Riyadh. Khashoggi came to the diplomatic facility to collect paperwork needed to remarry.

A recording taking from Turkish microphones planted inside the consulate is said to reveal a 15-man hit squad tried to take Khashoggi back to Saudi Arabia.

Looking ahead, the Saudi leadership would like nothing more than to bury the Khashoggi saga and move forward in working closely with the USA when it comes to the kingdom's economic transformation as well as Riyadh's and Washington's shared objectives in the region, particularly with respect to countering Iranian influence. Still, trials against the remaining 11 suspects have been shrouded in secrecy, and names of the defendants and the charges against them have not been disclosed publicly. His remains have never been recovered.

The Post said that it's clear these are part of an effort by the Saudis to reach an "arrangement" with the family members that they continue to show restraint in speaking out about the death of their father. The crown prince is the next in line to the Saudi throne after his ailing father King Salman, and has become the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia.

The family could receive further payments of as much as 100 to 200 million riyals ($26.7- $53.3 million) as part of blood money negotiations that might be expected when the trial concludes, CNN's source said. They also deny that the crown prince was ever involved.
