Some named in the court documents allegedly paid bribes of up to $6 million to get their children into elite colleges, according to federal prosecutors.

Ms Loughlin is expected to appear in court in Boston on Wednesday.

Huffman allegedly made a $15,000 donation to the Key World Foundation, a charity organization run by William Singer, which allegedly served as a front for a college admissions bribery scheme.

Among those charged were Oscar nominee Felicity Huffman, Fuller House star Lori Laughlin, and a former tennis coach for the Obamas.

In addition to Loughlin, the group included "Desperate Housewives" actress Felicity Huffman. She is scheduled to appear in court there in the afternoon.

Authorities have called it the biggest college admissions scam ever prosecuted by the US Justice Department - with parents accused of paying an estimated $25m (€22m) in bribes.

Prosecutors have said colleges are not targets of their criminal case. Loughlin, 54, has not yet been arrested but Giannulli will need to post a $1 million bond to get out.

Singer and several other employees of his outfits accepted some $25 million dollars in bribes from parents between 2011 and 2018 "to guarantee their children's admission to elite schools", said US Attorney Andrew Lelling.

Authorities said Singer's consulting company also bribed administrators of college entrance exams to allow a Florida man to take the tests on behalf of students or replace their answers with his.

The racketeering conspiracy charges were brought against coaches at schools including Wake Forest, Stanford, Georgetown, the University of Southern California and University of California, Los Angeles.

On Tuesday, Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman was arrested in the early morning hours by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents with their guns drawn for her role in a bribery scheme to get her older daughter into college.

As The Daily Wire previously reported, Huffman and almost 50 other people, including fellow actress Lori Loughlin and many high-profile CEOs, were charged for allegedly bribing officials at various colleges and cheating on entrance exams to get their kids into the schools.

Prosecutors said it was up to the universities what to do with students admitted through cheating.

Around the time that she was allegedly involved in the scheme, "Extra" caught up with Lori, who expressed how "proud" she was of daughter Olivia Jade at the 2017 Marie Claire Fresh Faces event in Los Angeles. "They anxious their daughters are as stupid as their mothers", Kellyanne Conway said in a social media post Tuesday. Court documents say Vavic was paid $250,000 and designated two students as recruits for his team to facilitate their admission.

The parents even got a tax write-off for donating to a nonprofit, investigators said. As the judge read off the charges against his wife, Macy, 69, reportedly sat with his head down around families of other defendants, according to Deadline.
