Russia plans new missile systems to counter U.S. by 2021

US pulls out of nuclear treaty with Russia that's been a centrepiece since the Cold War

Russian Federation has also accused the Trump administration of providing no evidence of treaty violations. Russian Federation consistently denied any proscribed activity and so on February 1, the USA announced it was pausing its observation of the INF treaty while leaving a six-month window before its official termination.

Leaving the INF pact, however, risks aggravating relations with European Union allies, who share the Trump regime view that Russian Federation is violating the treaty - but have not endorsed a USA withdrawal.

The 32-year-old treaty required parties to destroy ground-launched ballistic and cruise missiles with ranges of between 500 and 5,500 km (310 to 3,420 miles).

"The character and the timing of the works provide an irrefutable proof that the US administration had chose to pull out of the INF treaty years before making unfounded claims of Russian violations", it said.

As BelTA reported earlier on 2 January Washington officially notified Moscow of its withdrawal from the INF Treaty. "This is Russia's final opportunity to return to compliance", Wood warned. To that end, the US developed and began to station a land-based nuclear missile in Europe that could provide a credible deterrence to prevent the Red Army from flowing across the Fulda Gap in an all-out ground invasion. But at this point, there are no prospects that Beijing will take part in such an arrangement.

The U.S. also announced that it would withdraw from the treaty in six months in accordance with the treaty's terms.

After Pompeo's announcement, Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang called the United States withdrawal "regrettable".

European leaders in particular are anxious about their continent becoming once again the center of heightened US-Russia tensions and the staging ground for an arms buildup between the two.

Russian Federation says it is planning to develop new missile systems after both Russian Federation and the United States suspended their involvement in an arms control pact. Now, China and others such as Pakistan, India, and North Korea, are thought to have such capability-and they are not bound by the INF treaty.

Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics of Latvia - for which former ruler Russian Federation looms large as a threat - voiced hope that Washington and Moscow would work with other powers on a new agreement.

China's missile forces are a pillar of its national security strategy aimed at removing the influence of US forces in the Asia-Pacific region. Russian officials claimed that the U.S. assertions about the alleged breach of the pact by Moscow were meant to shift the blame for the pact's demise to Russia. This is what the US worries about.

The U.S. announced Friday it was dropping out of the agreement after Russian Federation denied that some of its new cruise missiles violated the agreement.

On Jan. 23, China Central Television aired footage deemed as showing the test launch of the latest DF26 intermediate-range missile.

"Over the same period we will also have to create a land-based missile system with a long-range hypersonic missile", he said.
