Argentina prosecutor acts on complaint against Saudi prince

The Republican-majority chamber voted 63-37 to allow the measure, which invokes the War Powers Resolution, stopping all involvement of U.S. armed forces in the Yemen war, to proceed to the floor of the senate for a vote, expected next week.

The 63-to-37 vote came after a contentious administration briefing on the war, a discussion that also addressed Saudi involvement in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, NBC News reported. It is proving successful with nations willing to back it for political, financial or economic gain, such as Bahrain, Egypt, Tunisia, and Palestine or nations like the United Arab Emirates, Russia and China that share Saudi Arabia's illiberal, authoritarian values. "The death of Mr. Khashoggi is a serious matter on which I want the entire truth to be made", he said.

The resumption of funding is also in line with King Salman's intervention in the previous year insisting that the kingdom was committed to Palestinian rights, including declaring East Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis both came to Capitol Hill to urgently lobby against the resolution, which would call for an end to US military assistance for the conflict that human rights advocates say is wreaking havoc on Yemen and subjecting civilians to indiscriminate bombing. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., that would require the Director of National Intelligence within one month to issue an unclassified report into the individuals that participated in, ordered or "were otherwise complicit in" the death of Khashoggi.

"I don't think there's anybody in the room that doesn't believe he was responsible for it", Senator Bob Corker, the Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told reporters after the briefing.

During the meeting MBS and Mr. Modi discussed cooperation in arms manufacturing and Saudi Arabia's efforts to develop a domestic arms industry. He added that while he didn't agree with the measure, "the way the administration has handled Saudi Arabia event is just not acceptable".

The frustration seemed to give the Yemen war resolution, introduced by independent Senator Bernie Sanders, more momentum. "We also have a crown prince that's out of control", he said. They have also said that they support the UN-led talks.

The U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on 17 individuals over their alleged roles in the killing of Khashoggi last week, following U.S. State Department's decision in late October to revoke 21 Saudi suspects' visas.
