Harry and Meghan receive traditional Maori welcome in New Zealand

The royal couple visited an exhibition of Tongan handicrafts

Meghan Markle is now on a 16 day long tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga.

Meghan boarded the plane in a burgundy dress.

According to Rebecca English, a royal correspondent for the U.K. Daily Mail newspaper who was aboard the Quantas charter flight at the time, they were "seconds from landing" at Sydney Airport when they suddenly pulled up from the runway. She said Harry responded: "What, waiting around at Government House in the cold?" and the couple both laughed.

Inside, Prince Harry was presented with the Badge in Gold for his work helping injured veterans.

They were returning to Australia from Tonga, where they had been as part of a 16-day royal tour.

One possible reason the pair have proved so endearing is because they haven't been afraid to break protocol, often holding hands and even hugging members of the public.

Five-year-old Luke Vincent had little regard for Royal protocol when he repeatedly hugged Prince Harry and Meghan during their visit to Dubbo.

Meanwhile, the veil, which Meghan had such a big say in designing herself, is arranged so that all the floral symbols can be clearly seen.

The parents-to-be likely didn't have too much time to spend in Vatuvara, as they've already made their way to the Kingdom of Tonga.

She said: 'Meghan started to talk to them and I thought I'm just going to ask.

Another poignant moment came when a young fan handed Meghan a homemade brooch, and the duchess immediately attached it to her trench coat.

"I love her dress and she was really pretty", Newman said.

Their itinerary over the following three days includes a hike and barbecue in the Abel Tasman National Park at the top of the South Island, a reception with Ardern at Auckland War Memorial Museum and a visit to the popular North Island tourist resort of Rotorua.

The royal tour coincided with Sydney hosting the Invictus Games, with Harry and Meghan catching some of the early adaptive sports events involving 500 competitors from 18 nations.

Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, attend the traditional welcome ceremony on the lawns of Government House in Wellington.

The tune left Meghan, who is about four months pregnant and has taken medical advice about the Zika virus, in irrepressible giggles.
