Donald Trump blames media to inspiring pipebomber

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly after an event with reporters in the Oval Office at the White House in Washington

"The President is certainly not responsible for sending suspicious packages to someone, no more than Bernie Sanders was responsible for a supporter shooting up a baseball practice field past year", she told reporters in the White House driveway. "Thus far, they have shown no comprehension of that", Zucker said as the network's NY bureau was evacuated for five hours on Wednesday following the discovery of an explosive device sent there.

"Certainly the media has a role to play in this process", she said. "The president is certainly not responsible for sending suspicious packages to someone, no more than Bernie Sanders was responsible for a supporter of his shooting up a Republican baseball field practice previous year".

Former CIA Director John Brennan, the target of a suspected pipe bomb discovered at CNN's Manhattan office on Wednesday, responded on Twitter that Trump should "stop blaming others".

Zucker's remark was issued after Trump attended a White House event about his administration's battle against the opioid crisis, at which he also addressed the growing number of suspected bombs sent to Democrats he loves to attack including Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, George Soros, Eric Holder, Maxine Waters and former Central Intelligence Agency chief John Brennan, as well as CNN.

Sanders was referring to the June 2017 congressional baseball shooting, targeting Republicans.

A law enforcement official told Fox News that numerous devices have a similar packaging and labeling, leading them to believe a single person or group could be behind the threats.

Authorities said one of the packages that contained a "suspected explosive device" was discovered by a retired police detective, who notified investigators early Thursday morning.

Mr. Brennan blamed the president, saying his rhetoric "fuels these feelings and sentiments that now are bleeding over into potentially acts of violence".

"I didn't really say the president was a liar", he insisted. He continued the interview, but after one more question cut to a commercial.

This comes on the heels of his appearance on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday, where Scaramucci said that he doesn't believe Kelly personally likes President Donald Trump and that he throws "hissy fits".

Even as the White House was fighting back against criticism from the left, Mr. Trump for the moment is taking a more cautious approach in public.

The chant "CNN sucks!" has become a staple of Trump's campaign rallies, perhaps second only to the "Lock her up!" chant directed at his former presidential rival, Hillary Clinton, whose home with former President Bill Clinton also received a suspicious package Wednesday.
