Trump says he and North Korea’s Kim ‘fell in love’

DPRK Says Will Not Denuclearize Before More Trust in US

So far, all three, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the North has not even agreed to define basic terms such as "denuclearisation", "verifiable", and "irreversible". But, he said, his ability to develop a warm relationship with Kim during a summit in Singapore in June has been key to easing tensions.

President Trump has said that sanctions will remain in place against North Korea until complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization is achieved.

The leaders shook hands at least nine times during the summit, with Mr Trump describing the North Korean dictator as "very talented".

The North has taken "goodwill measures" by stopping its ballistic missile tests and dismantling a nuclear test site, among other things, Ri said.

Ri says it's a "pipe dream" that continued sanctions and United States objection to a declaration ending the Korean War will ever bring the North to its knees.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho on Saturday said in an address to the United Nations General Assembly that Pyongyang would not denuclearize "without any trust" in the United States.

"Those in the political opposition in the USA make it their daily business to slander the DPRK claiming that we can not be trusted, with the sole goal of attacking their political opponent and they are forcing the administration to make unreasonable unilateral demands to our side, thereby impeding the smooth progress of the dialogue and negotiations".

The minister instead highlighted three meetings between Mr Kim and South Korean leader Moon Jae-in in the past five months and added: "If the party to this issue of denuclearisation were South Korea and not the United States, the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula would not have come to such a deadlock".

Ri also said that North Korea was "unwavering" in its commitment to implementing the joint declaration signed in Singapore by U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Instead of addressing the North's concerns about the absence of a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula, Ri said, the USA has insisted that denuclearization come first and increased pressure through sanctions. "And we were going back and forth, and then we fell in love. OK?"
