CBS' Leslie Moonves resigns amid allegations

CBS CEO Leslie Moonves hit with six additional claims of sexual harassment and assault

A financial exit package for Moonves will be withheld pending the results of an ongoing investigation into the allegations against him.

These are the latest accusations against Moonves, following a July report with six initial women's stories that prompted the CBS board to investigate Moonves' conduct and consider his departure.

Moonves, in a statement included in the report, acknowledged three encounters before his tenure at CBS, but said they were consensual and added: "The appalling accusations in this article are untrue".

"In the event" the CBS board "determines that the company is entitled to terminate Mr. Moonves's employment for cause" - meaning that he's fired due to credible harassment claims - the $120 million will return to the company's coffers, according to the filing.

However, amid these recent allegations, two sources cited by the Los Angeles Times have claimed that Moonves is reportedly expected to resign from his position at the network, which he's held for 15 years, either late Sunday evening or early Monday morning, September 10.

"I was talking to somebody this weekend who I'm very close to, [who] had something like this happen to them 30 years ago", Dickerson said.

CBS's board has been in talks with Moonves to negotiate his exit, a source familiar with the matter previously told Reuters. This has hurt morale, but there are some really, really good people that come to work every single day.

CBS announced that chief operating officer Joseph Ianniello will be president and acting CEO, overseeing all operations of the company, while the board searches for a permanent successor.

As that investigation progressed it was widely reported that Mr Moonves would leave the network shortly and was negotiating a severance package. No severance amount was cited in Sunday's announcement.

Les Moonves makes around $70 million a year in his current position at CBS, where he's been in one executive capacity or another since 1995.

"He absolutely ruined my career", television executive Phyllis Golden-Gottlieb told Farrow, recounting a day in the '80s when she denied Moonves oral sex in his auto, prompting him to throw her "hard" against a wall a few days later.

Some allege he forced them to perform oral sex or exposed himself without their consent.

Golden-Gottlieb said she hopes Moonves' punishment includes more than just his resignation as one of the most powerful media executives in the nation.

Jessica Pallingston, a writer, charged that Moonves "coerced her into performing oral sex on him when she worked as his temporary assistant, in the nineties, and that, after she repelled subsequent sexual advances, he became hostile, at one point calling her a 'c--'".

"He absolutely ruined my career", she told The New Yorker. We believe them. These new allegations are in addition to the previous six women who have already bravely spoken out and detailed horrific behavior from Moonves.

"In my 40 years of work, I have never before heard of such disturbing accusations", the 68-year-old continued.

"I definitely think he should resign, and I don't think he should get $100 million to resign", said Linda Silverthorn, who accused Moonves of unwanted sexual advances in the New Yorker article.

Six more women have made bone-chilling allegations of abuse, harassment and retaliation against Les Moonves.

CBS said the board will schedule its annual shareholders meeting no later than November 30. The news comes three days after a Huffington Post report claimed that Moonves had tried to destroy Janet Jackson's career following 2004 Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction". "But it is far from a solution".
