United Nations calls on Israel to stop targeting children in Gaza

Knesset

100 days shoot and burn fields, but the Prime Minister arrived to talk to residents.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting that although rumours were circulating that the cease fire did not include a halt to the arson balloons and kites, "this is incorrect". "This cease-fire, which Hamas has decided that it is a outcome of the loss of control by the government, which takes decisions".

"I heard it being said that Israel has agreed to a ceasefire that would allow the continuation of terrorism by incendiary kites and balloons; this is incorrect".

"I am deeply concerned about the imposition of further restrictions at Kerem Shalom, which is the lifeline for Gaza's population", he added, referring to the key border crossing with Israel.

Israel's fire service says around 750 fires have burned some 2,600 hectares (6,400 acres), estimating the damage at millions of shekels (hundreds of thousands of dollars or euros).

The weeks since May have seen several further bouts of violence, both at the border fence and in the form of incendiary kites and air strikes.

Young Palestinians released dozens of arson balloons from eastern Gaza into Israel, which caused huge fires to large agricultural fields in southern Israel, Israeli media reported.

On July 9, Israel closed its only goods crossing with the Gaza Strip in response to the fires.

On Tuesday, it fired at a group launching arson balloons in the northern Gaza Strip.

Health officials in Gaza said the building was empty, but two Palestinians aged 15 and 16, among a crowd in a nearby public park, were killed.

United Nations Special Coordinator Nickolay Mladenov visited Gaza on Sunday for four hours and warned that Gaza, which lived through three devastating Israeli war since 2008, is on the brink of another round of conflict that could be even more devastating than the previous ones.

His trial is part of Israel's persistent pressure on worldwide institutions and organizations that have been carrying out relief activities in Gaza since 2006, under the pretext that they "help Hamas".

At least two groups launched kites towards Israel on Sunday.

Hamas-led border protests are aimed in part at drawing attention to the Israeli-Egyptian blockade imposed after Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007.

The tightening of the blockade comes after Saturday's air strikes.

The Islamist movement is limited in how it can respond militarily, he said.

The political activist also highlighted the obstacles that the deal of the century will face, pointing to Palestine's fierce opposition to the initiative, the Syrian army's success to retake more areas from terrorists, the "March of Return" protests by Palestinians, and the strengthened role of resistance in Palestine.

The Zionist regime must now wait for the iron fist of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance and their painful reaction to the awful crimes in the Gaza Strip.

It accuses Hamas of seeking to use the protests as cover for attacks.
