You might think this is an off year election, but in Beavercreek, you would be wrong. No less than six candidates will be on the ballot this election day, November 3, to fill three open seats on Beavercreek City Council. One will become Beavercreek’s next mayor. Two candidates are current members of the council, two have run before and two are relative newcomers to many.

City Council members Scott Hadley and Brian Jarvis are seeking to maintain their seats. Hadley has a long track record on City Council having served off and on since 1994 and having served as mayor before. Jarvis was appointed to fill the seat vacated by Jarrod Martin after he won a seat as State Representative. Current City Council Member Dr. Thomas Leonard decided not to seek re-election.

Other contenders include past candidates Linda Borgert and Debborah Wallace. Both Borgert and Wallace ran for City Council in 2007. Borgert, a strong supporter of a city income tax, received 7.99% in 2007, finishing 7th in a field of 11. Wallace, currently a member of the City’s Planning Commission, finished 10th with 6.7% percent in 2007.

Relative newcomers include Tony Corvo and Steve Stratton. Corvo has run for office before but not since the 1990’s. For a time he ran the “Keep Beavercreek Affordable PAC” and most recently served on the City’s Charter Review Commission. Stratton who is an engineer and a Ron Paul supporter, is also running.

One of the three winners, the one with the most votes, will become Beavercreek’s next Mayor and will serve a 2-year term until the next City Council elections in 2011.
