A flash snow storm and dropping temperatures led to numerous accidents on US Rt 35 in Beavercreek last night closing westbound US Rt 35 for more than an hour. See photos.
The problem on Rt 35 was located near the Grange Hall bridge. A flash snow storm starting around 6:00 pm and lasting an hour dropped wet snow on the freeway. Falling temperatures combined with the wet snow to quickly turn bridges and roadways in the area icy. Ice on US Rt 35 near the bridge over Grange Hall Road led to a multiple car accidents. The Greene County Sheriff’s Department closed the freeway for about an hour to give fire crews, police and tow trucks a chance to clean up the accidents and to give road safety crews a chance to make the stretch of freeway safe for driving. The backup extended beyond the Fairfield Road interchange.
Other freeways in the Miami Valley had similar problems with ice and accidents including I-675, I-75 and I-70.
