It was forecast to be one of the worst winter storms expected this year. Beavercreek even pre-salted the roads and residents did the same with driveways. But when the time came nothing happened.

All Salted Up and No Place With Snow

The forecast called for snow, then icy rain, then snow. All the major media forecast it as well as the National Weather Service. Beavercreek even pre-salted the roadways. Residents stocked up on food staples from local grocery stores in preparation. But when the time came everyone was witness to a strange phenomenon. It was just too dry on the ground to snow. Humidity levels were too low.
Weather experts say the conditions created a phenomenon where it was snowing above our heads, but evaporating before it could ever reach the ground. Basically, we all dodged a weather bullet. Had the storm arrived in it’s anticipated form the ice was expected to have been heavy enough to snap power lines and the snow forecast to follow would have fallen atop icy roadways creating hazzardous driving.
Beavercreek road crews deserve a fair amount of credit for erring on the side of safety and taking the initiative to pre-salt the roadways, even though the snow and ice never came. Throughout the city salt crystals mixed with a blue brine could be seen on many roads over the weekend as residents tended to their business.
