A plea deal may be in the works for a woman charged with a theft of money while working for the Beavercreek Popcorn Festival Committee.
On January 7, 2008 the scheduled pre-trial hearings and jury trial were cancelled according to Greene County Court records involving the case. A new plea hearing was also scheduled for February 2, 2008 before Judge Wolaver and a restitution deposit in the amount of $10,000 was made with the Greene County Courts on that same date. All signs point towards some sort of plea deal. As of yet The Beavercreek Record has no specific details on what that deal may be.
The woman, Angela D. Guernsey of Fairborn, was suspected of allegedly stealing over $29,000 during a two year period while serving as the treasurer of the Beavercreek Popcorn Festival Committee. On October 8, 2007, a secret indictment was issued on 2 counts of Grand Theft in the fourth degree against the woman and she was fingerprinted that same day. On October 17 Guernsey entered her original plea of not guilty to both counts and the now cancelled pre-trial hearings and jury trial were scheduled.
Note: Court schedules can change as cases develop. The dates listed in the story above are acurate as of January 30, 2008. The Beavercreek Record reminds readers that the accused’s original plea of not guilty is still the only plea on record.
The Beavercreek Record was first with this story.
