The Beavercreek chapter of the Americans for Fair Taxation (FairTax) will hold its monthly meeting Monday, December 3 at 6 pm in the Beavercreek Library. Interested citizens are invited to attend. The local group reflects part of the national organization’s increased efforts to organize at the local level.

On November 9, the group Americans For Fair Taxation at their website FairTax.org announced it would start providing local based websites for it’s members to organize. In a press announcement the group said “We have piloted and are preparing to expand our FairTax Groups program to offer our local grassroots leaders the ability to generate their own web content and communicate via e-mail with their local supporters.”

The Fair Tax has gained much promenance recently in the Republican Primary debates with Governor Mike Huckabee bringing up the issue frequently. The issue started to attract widespread national attention last year after radio talk show host Neal Boortz and John Linder wrote a book about it titled The Fair Tax Book. The book went on to become a New York Times Bestseller.

According to the group’s website, Americans For Fair Taxation was formed in 1995 as a 501 (c)(4) nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to replacing the current tax system. It began as a research organization with the initial goal of finding what the American people wanted in a tax system.

Over the years, polling and focus group studies were conducted and and then a nonpartisan team of economists was commissioned to develop the FairTax plan. The organization today has hundreds of thousands of members and volunteers nationwide in state and local chapters.
