Wright-Patt Credit Union plans to locate a new branch in Beavercreek, but the oldest church in Beavercreek now stands on the property.

Representatives for the credit union introduced plans for the new facility before the planning comission on November 7 and City Council approved rezoning of the property on November 12, 2007. The new facility is planned along North Fairfield Road at the intersection of North Fairfield and Lantz.

The Charity Baptist Church now stands on the property. The church has been added to and renovated over the years, but at the core of that church is a possibly historic structure.

No one can be sure just how historic it may be until demolition begins. The original church that is now covered by renovations and add-ons was built by Dunkards in the 1800’s.

Wright Patt Credit Union has agreed to work with the Beavercreek Historical Society to determine the historic value of the church and consider moving it to the Wartinger Park if necessary.

The church may or may not have historic value according to some. The Dunkards were a very simple people and it’s possible the church is nothing more than a box with no distinguishing characteristics. The Beavercreek Historical Society will be given the chance to make the call.
