Photo Feature: If you thought we had a bad drought here in Ohio and Beavercreek, take a look at these exclusive Beavercreek Record photos of a dried up Lake Allatoona in Georgia.
The drought in Beavercreek may have caused a few dead lawns, water worries and stripped the community of some of the familiar green of summer, but it pales in comparison to the drought suffered by Georgia residents. One of the larger lakes in the state, Lake Allatoona, is quickly drying up.
The photos in this week’s photo feature may not have been taken in Beavercreek, but they do add a bit of perspective when thinking about this year’s drought. As we give thanks this Thanksgiving holiday, maybe we can also be thankful our drought didn’t rise to the same proportions as that of Georgia.
Thought Ohio’s Drought Was Bad, Georgia is Missing a Lake

Today’s view of the lake from one of the shoreline parks that has been closed by the Georgia National Guard. From the edge of the lake looking to the left the view is stark and barren.

From the edge of the lake looking to the right it is dry as far as the eye can see. Further down, out of view, there is still water but it is mixed in with numerous sandbars that have been revealed. Earthmovers are being used to clear away the sandbars to make parts of the lake navigable again.

A close view of the dried out lake bed shows just how bad it is. The earth has already begun to crack in the heat. At the edge of the park, a boat ramp covered in leaves and debris leads to nowhere.
